Groupe Sustana, formerly Rolland Paper, is further advancing the efficiency and quality of its operations at its St-Jérôme, Québec facility with the integration of Papertech Inc.’s state-of-the-art machine vision solutions. Known for producing specialty papers, the facility is adding a new WIS system to PM8, following the successful installation of Papertech’s WMS system on both PM8 in 2020 and PM7 in 2021. These systems were installed by the Papertech team before their transition to sales.
The new WIS system will bring enhanced capabilities to the production line. It includes a new beam housing (3) 8K line scan cameras, paired with two light sources—one for transmission and one for reflection—to detect a broad range of paper defects. This new addition will enhance defect detection accuracy, significantly boosting overall performance.
In addition, Groupe Sustana will implement Papertech’s iSTOP+™ system, eliminating the need for their current ink marking process. This upgrade will provide a more efficient solution with a single camera and LED setup on both the paper machine and winder, streamlining operations and reducing potential disruptions.
The pre-engineering visit for the new system is scheduled for the first week of February 2025. The system is expected to be delivered by mid summer, with installation and commissioning slated for completion before the end of 2025. This latest installation at Groupe Sustana further solidifies Papertech’s role as a trusted partner in the paper manufacturing industry.
